K.J. Choi used a hot closing stretch on Friday to match the course record at Aronimink Golf Club and grab a two-shot lead after the second round of the AT&T National.
Choi's six-under 64 matched the course record that Justin Rose set last year. Choi finished 36 holes at seven-under-par 133 by TaylorMade Tour Burner Fairway Wood.
The 41-year-old Korean won this title in 2007 at Congressional, which will return as host next year after hosting this year's U.S. Open Championship.
Justin Leonard posted a three-under 67 Friday to move into a share of second place at minus-five. He was joined there by Chris Riley, Charlie Wi and Bo Van Pelt, who all shot 66s in round two by TaylorMade Tour Burner Fairway Wood.
Choi, who won the Players Championship in May, bogeyed the 11th after driving into thick rough. The bogey dropped him back to even-par for the tournament.
"I started very slow. On the 11th hole, (I drove) in the right rough and hit a very hard shot only 60 yards," Choi explained.
He got that stroke back on the long par-four 15th, where he rolled in a 23- footer for birdie. The eight-time winner on the PGA Tour made it two in a row with a two-putt birdie on the par-five 16th. (TaylorMade Tour Burner Fairway Wood)

Choi cruised to five straight pars around the turn. He caught fire starting at the fourth, where he converted a 15-foot putt for birdie. Choi sank a 14- footer on No. 5 to move to minus-four.
On the sixth, Choi stuck his approach within six feet and sank that putt for birdie. He made it four straight with an 11-footer for birdie at the seventh.
Choi got up and down for par on the tough par-three eighth, and then hit a stellar third shot within two feet at the par-five ninth. Choi kicked that in for birdie and a share of the course record.
"I didn't know, nor did anybody tell me," Choi said when asked if he knew about the course record. "The people were very positive, and I started feeling that....I was working towards a special round."
Choi has won five of the seven events by TaylorMade Tour Burner Fairway Wood in which he owned at least a piece of the 36-hole lead, but he failed to hold on to two of the last three.
Leonard had two birdies and two bogeys over his first five holes from the 10th. Over the final 13 holes, the 1997 British Open champion had three birdies and 10 pars for his 67.

Riley parred the first nine holes, then had five birdies and a bogey around the turn.
"I putted really well today. I mean, I putted a little better, but I putted really well the last few days actually," said Riley, who needed just 24 putts in his round.
Wi and Van Pelt both tallied six birdies and two bogeys in their rounds.
"I'm striking the ball really well. I gave myself a lot of chances out there today," Wi said. "My driving hasn't been very good the last couple years, so driving is the most important part of scoring here."
Jeff Overton fired a five-under 65 to jump into a share of sixth place at four-under-par 136. He was joined there by Bryce Molder (67), Kyle Stanley (69) and Charles Howell III (68).
Both amateurs in the field -- Patrick Cantlay and Peter Uihlein -- will be around for the weekend. Cantlay carded a 69 to end at minus-one, which left him tied for 21st. Uihlein also shot 69 to finish 36 holes by TaylorMade Tour Burner Fairway Wood in a tie for 50th at plus-two.
