R-Mac: Not My Kind of Weather

A one-shot penalty for his ball moving on the green only added to Rory McIlroy's final round woes at the 140th Open.
Having already taken a penalty drop from a bush on the short third, the second penalty occurred at the 564-yard seventh after he had left an eagle attempt eight feet short.
He was penalized when the wind moved the ball after he had addressed it and when he then missed the putt; McIlroy had to swallow his frustration at seeing a possible three turn into a six!
After finishing with a 73 for seven over by Cleveland CG16 Wedges, the US Open champion then conceded that bad weather Opens are not for him.
"I'm not a fan of tournaments that the outcome is predicted so much by the weather - it's not my sort of golf, not the sort of my Cleveland CG16 Wedges" he said in a frank admission.
"All the amateur tournaments I've won were played on links courses, but they were all relatively calm."
He has the Irish Open in Killarney next starting a week on Thursday, but added: "I'm looking forward to getting back to America and getting back into some nice conditions."
The final major of the season is the US PGA in Atlanta on August 11-14 and he will warm up in Akron with his Cleveland CG16 Wedges the week before.
"That's the Open Championship and that's the way some years go. You either deal with the weather or just wait for a year when it's nice," he said.
"My game is suited for basically every golf course and most conditions, but these conditions I just don't enjoy playing in really.
"That's the bottom line. I'd rather play when it's 80 degrees and sunny and not much wind."
McIlroy has no plans to change his swing, stating: "There's no point in changing your game for one week a year." (Cleveland CG16 Wedges)
His disappointing performance will get rid of some of the hype that followed his eight-shot win at the US Open with some like Padraig Harrington even saying he had the talent to challenge Jack Nicklaus's record 18 majors.
"That was very premature," commented the 22-year-old. "I've just won one. I've only won three tournaments as a pro.
"I'm going to spend a few days at home now getting my swing back to where it needs to be. The wind sort of messes it up a little bit."
